What are your Aspirations?
Working towards an independent lifestyle
Aspirations Care has extensive experience supporting people with Learning Disabilities. We also help people who may have associated diagnoses alongside their primary Learning Disability.
We’ve achieved many successful outcomes through the use of assistive technology to promote independence, develop relationships, financial budgeting and management, promoting health and safety and accessing information – which ultimately helps those in our care move towards an independent lifestyle.
Just some of the goals the people we support work towards:
Specific issues that people who have a learning disability can face:
Whatever support we provide, we focus heavily on STOMP - Stopping Over Medication of People (with a Learning Disability, Autism or both) with psychotropic medicines.
Personalised support at every turn
Autism is a lifelong neuro-developmental condition that affects each person differently. Aspirations is committed to understanding the individual and their autism and then putting in place the right support to help that person thrive.
We do this primarily through in-depth staff training. Our support teams receive basic autism awareness training during their induction. They are then given the opportunity to complete two further in-depth courses including specialist face-to-face training and a university-level qualification accredited by Coventry University.
Every person we support with an autistic diagnosis is helped to develop a unique ‘Autism Profile’. This profile drives their support plan ensuring we maintain an autism-focused approach. If anyone we support is experiencing difficulties then we have a designated Autism Lead alongside a network of Autism Champions (graduates of our university course) who can step in and support both the individual and their support team.
We are committed to implementing the SPELL framework for autistic people in all our services and, wherever appropriate, aim to adopt a collaborative approach working closely with families and external professionals.
Simplifying support for complex challenges
At Aspirations, we are dedicated to supporting individuals with Learning Disabilities and/or Mental Health needs to move into their own homes, no matter how complex their requirements.
We can help simplify what can be a complicated process of moving towards independent living – which often comes about after individuals have spent a significant amount of time in hospital.
In line with our ‘own home not hospitals’ ethos, Aspirations support starts with a comprehensive assessment of needs. Using this information, we then create and develop a Person-Centred Transition Plan for the individual.
Our person-centred transition plan involves:
When I have my key worker session with my support worker, she is very helpful and supportive. She gives me good advice and listens to me a lot. She is very positive towards my progress and development. I feel reassured and it is good when someone listens to you. She shows she cares.
If you know someone who would benefit from our person-centred support as they work towards a more independent future, please email us.
